For Women

Financial education that speaks to the specific realities of older women in Ecuador.

Why a dedicated program

Women face distinct financial situations in later life

In Ecuador, women often outlive their partners and spend their later years managing finances that were previously handled jointly or entirely by someone else. This transition can be disorienting, even for women who were active in their households and communities throughout their lives.

At the same time, older women are statistically more likely to receive remittances from children who have migrated. They are also more frequently targeted by informal financial schemes that present themselves through trusted community networks.

This program was developed in response to those specific realities. The content, examples, and language all reflect situations that women in Ecuador actually encounter.

Older women in Ecuador meeting to discuss personal finances and support each other
Understanding survivor pensions
When a spouse passes, the pension situation changes. We explain how survivor pensions work under the IESS, what documents are needed, and what to expect from the process.
Receiving and tracking remittances
Many older women in Ecuador receive regular transfers from children living abroad. We explain how to receive them safely, how to track them, and how to budget when the amounts vary month to month.
Protecting financial independence
Older women are sometimes pressured to make financial decisions by family members or community figures. We discuss how to recognize this pressure and how to make decisions that protect your own financial stability.
Building small savings habits
Even with a limited fixed income, consistent small savings are possible. We introduce simple methods for setting aside a small amount each month without disrupting essential expenses.
How the program works

Designed for comfort and confidence

The women's program is structured as a series of short sessions, each focused on a single topic. Sessions can be completed individually or as part of a small group. The pace is entirely flexible.

All materials are written in plain Spanish. No financial background is assumed. Where legal or institutional terms are necessary, they are explained clearly within the session itself.

Participants are encouraged to bring their actual documents, such as pension statements or remittance receipts, to practice applying what they learn to their own situation. This makes the knowledge immediately useful rather than theoretical.

A note on privacy

We understand that financial situations are personal. Everything shared within our programs is treated with full confidentiality. We do not share participant information with any third party. Our only purpose is to help you understand and manage your own finances.

Financial knowledge belongs to you.

No prior experience needed. No pressure. Just clear, practical information designed for your situation.
